The original Calonox View is a 640×512, 12 µm VOx thermal monocular with a 42 mm lens, a 2.5x base magnification, a 10.5° field of view, digital zoom to 10x and a 50 Hz refresh rate. Leica's datasheet quotes Johnson-criteria ranges of 3,000 m acquisition, 1,000 m detection and 500 m identification; the 1,000 m detection figure is stored here. NETD is not stated on the sheet.
It has a 0.4-inch 1280×960 LCOS display, records 768×576 video and stills to 16 GB, offers PAL video output and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and charges over USB-C. The built-in battery lasts about 4–5 hours. The body is rated IPX4, operates from -10 to 50 °C and weighs 685 g with battery. Figures are from Leica's January 2023 technical data.
It has been superseded by the Calonox 2 View (60 Hz, full-HD display, IP67, longer battery) and appears mainly as used or clearance stock. At the right price it remains a capable 640 unit for mixed ground; the short battery and IPX4 rating are its limits.
