About this site

A UK price and spec comparison for handheld night vision and thermal optics, run by CentraServe Ltd.

Night vision is an awkward thing to shop for. Listings mix image-intensifier tubes with digital sensors, quote "range" figures measured in different ways, and bury the one spec that decides the picture — the sensor or the tube generation — under marketing. Prices swing by a third from week to week. So this site does the boring work: every day it fetches the current Amazon UK price, stock and sales rank for every device it tracks, reads the stated specs out of each listing, and keeps a daily price record so that "a good price" can mean something measurable rather than a crossed-out RRP.

What is listed

  • Night vision monoculars, binoculars and goggles — digital and tube-based (Gen 1 to Gen 3).
  • Thermal monoculars and binoculars — handheld spotters, from entry-level 256×192 units to 640×512 imagers.

What is not listed, on purpose: weapon-mounted gear. Rifle scopes, clip-on attachments, sights and anything built around a reticle or a rail are rejected automatically and never stored. Accessories — IR illuminators on their own, batteries, cases, mounts — are kept out of the listings too. This is a site about seeing in the dark, not shooting in it.

Where the data comes from

Prices, stock, ratings and sales rank come from the Amazon Product Advertising (Creators) API, refreshed every morning. Specs — technology, magnification, sensor resolution, lens size, stated detection range, recording features, water resistance — are parsed from the listing title itself. Where a title does not state a figure we leave it blank; nothing is guessed or filled in from another product.

The "typical price" shown on product pages and the price drops page is the median of our own daily snapshots over the last 90 days, published only once we hold at least 30 days of them. A median, not an average, so a single spike cannot make an ordinary price look like a bargain.

How things are ordered

Category pages default to in-stock devices rated 4★ and above, in Amazon sales-rank order — the best sellers first. You can switch to all ratings, or sort by price or by how far below its typical price a device is today. Nothing is ranked by the commission it would earn; see the affiliate disclosure.

Who we are

nightvisiongear.co.uk is published by CentraServe Ltd, a UK company that runs a small family of price-comparison sites (hard drives, RAM, motherboards, 3D printers). We hold no stock, take no orders and handle no payments; every purchase happens on Amazon. Contact us with corrections — a wrong spec is usually a title our parser has not seen before, and each fix improves every similar listing.
