Type: Thermal monoculars Brand: Nightfox
The Arctic is a thermal monocular designed to be worn on a head mount as well as held, with a true 1x base magnification so the view matches the real world. Its 256×192, 12 µm detector is quoted at 30 mK or better and runs at 50 frames per second behind a fixed-focus 7 mm lens, giving a wide 23.8° field of view, digital zoom to 4x and stated ranges of 180 m detection and 100 m recognition.
The 2.06-inch 410×502 AMOLED display shows the image; it records video but not stills. Power is a removable 18650 cell of 3,500 mAh rated at 9 hours. The body is IP65 and weighs 280 g. Nightfox lists an RRP of £349.99.
It suits walking in the dark, camping and close-range garden and woodland watching, where a wide, lag-free 1x thermal view is what matters. It is not a spotter: the short lens means a person is a dot beyond 150 m.
