Type: Night vision goggles Brand: Nightfox
The Prowl is a single-eye digital night vision unit designed to be worn on the supplied head mount, with a true 1x view so you can walk with it. It uses a 1920×1080 sensor behind an F1.0 lens, giving an unusually wide 53.8° field of view for a digital device, digital zoom to 3x and a stated night range of 130 m. Two 2 W infrared illuminators are fitted, one at 850 nm (brighter, faint red glow) and one at 940 nm (dimmer, invisible).
The eyepiece shows a 1.3-inch 360×360 TFT display. It records 720×1280 video with audio (no stills) and has no Wi-Fi. Power is a removable 18650 cell of 3,200 mAh charged over USB-C, rated at 5 hours. The body is IP54 and weighs 255 g. Nightfox lists an RRP of £199.99.
It suits walking, camping and garden watching hands-free, and anyone who wants a goggle-style digital unit without the nausea that narrow-view digital goggles can cause.
