Type: Night vision monoculars Brand: Sionyx

The Aurora Black is the standard model of Sionyx's colour digital night vision camera. Like the Aurora Pro it has a 16 mm f/1.4 lens giving a 1x view with 3x digital zoom, a 1024×768 micro-OLED viewfinder, 720p video recording at 60 Hz, Wi-Fi and an IP67 body of 274 g that survives a 1 m drop. The difference is sensitivity: Sionyx quotes under 2 millilux for the Black against under 1 millilux for the Pro, so the Pro works in darker conditions. Detection of a man-sized target is quoted at 150 m under a quarter moon.

Two removable batteries are supplied, each rated at about 2 hours. The page fetched is Sionyx's Explorer kit, which bundles a 940 nm infrared illuminator on a rail mount; the plain Aurora Black is no longer listed separately on Sionyx's site and appears as kit, refurbished or used stock.

It suits boaters and campers who want a passive colour night view and video at a lower price than the Pro.
