The Taipan TM15-384 shares the TM25's 384×288, 12 µm, 35 mK sensor, 50 Hz refresh, 1280×960 LCOS display, 8 GB storage, Wi-Fi and 7.5-hour built-in battery, but puts a 15 mm lens in front of it. That lowers base magnification to 1.5x (digital zoom to 12x), widens the field of view to 17.5° and reduces the stated detection range to 710 m. It is slightly lighter at 290 g and is also IP67 rated.
The wide view suits woodland, gardens, hedgerows and boats, where things appear close and move across the scene; the 25 mm version is the better choice for fields.
As with the rest of the first Taipan range, AGM has discontinued it, so it is sold as remaining or used stock. At clearance prices it is an inexpensive way to get a 384 sensor in a pocket-sized unit.
